We've used kosher salt before too, it does sparkle. I want to try epsom salts and watercolor too, that's supposed to grow crystals when it dries. As for glitter, though it does get everywhere, it isn't so bad ... you'll be surprised every now and then by a little sparkle here and there :) ... sometimes on a shelf, in a book, in your cup of tea, on your husband's face (just don't say anything, it will probably fall off before he notices anyway)...
